Interventional Radiology

The Interventional Radiology department's procedures consist of invasive and minimally invasive diagnostic techniques or therapies done by the use of radiological methods. The service is situated on the first floor underground of the hospital (-1) and can be accessed by elevator 7 or by stairwell F.

Here, diagnostic exams (ultrasound guided needle aspirations), vascular procedures (angioplastic arteriography, stents, and embolizations), extra-vascular procedures (drainage, biliary prosthesis, TIPSS), oncologic  procedures (hepatic-chemoembolizations, radio frequency, and alcoholizations) are performed.
The principal activity is represented by lower-extremity distal revascularizations in diabetic patients with ischemic foot lesions. These patients come to the Diabetic Foot Unit which works in strong collaboration with the IR service. This collaboration ensures maximum benefits when conservatively treating distal lesions.

To this end, dedicated and advanced techniques which permit most patients to obtain excellent results, are utilized. The department, which is capable of providing both outpatient diagnostic and interventional services (in Day Surgery), has four beds in the General Medicine Ward for admitted patients being treated for liver and bile duct cancers.
