Foot and Ankle Surgery Ward

Foot and ankle surgery is one of the most difficult orthopedic specialties because of the complexity of the areas to be operated on.  The specific characteristics of the section concerned, which is to say the fact that it is absolutely essential for our locomotive ability, makes it a very delicate matter.

Therefore, the approach becomes biomechanical- always taking into consideration the application of the mechanical and physical laws of our wonderful machine that allows us to walk.  This special unit is dedicated to improving the function of the foot and ankle,  facilitating recovery after a trauma, and bringing the patient to a full recovery that is not only aesthetic but also functional.

The hallux valgus surgery is a classic example.  This surgery is performed by a special technique, called the "Austin technique".  It consists of re-centering the metatarsal head on its axis (which is turned inwards because of the disease) through a three-dimensional alignment. In addition to hallux valgus, we deal with pathologies such as hammer foot, metatarsalgia,  bursitis, and distortions and ligament injuries, which are the typical types of traumas suffered by athletes who significantly overload their ankles. Cartilage repair is performed following modern techniques that permit to reconstruct articulation as much as possible by a minimally invasive operation such as arthroscopy.
