Medical Laboratory

Chief: Dr. Massimo Albertin
The Medical Laboratory service is classified as a general laboratory with two specialized divisions:

  • Clinical chemistry and Toxicology
  • Microbiology and Serology

Most types of blood sample analyses and analyses of other biological materials can be done on a walk-in basis. The vaginal tampon examination is the only one that must be made by appointment. Outpatients can access the service's admissions desk and withdrawal center from the main entrance.

The laboratory is open to the public according to the following schedule:

  • From Monday to Saturday, 7.10 am to 10.00 am for blood withdrawals and the handing in of other biological materials.
  • From Monday to Friday, 10.00 am to 6.00 pm, and on Saturday from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm for picking up medical reports and records.

Outpatients can also access the blood withdrawal center “Prato della Valle” located in via Luca Belludi n. 3. It is open every weekday from 7.30 am to 10.00 am, and for picking up medical records from 11.00 am to 12.00 pm, and from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm. The Medical Laboratory service, which is also available to make blood withdrawals directly at patients' homes, does exams for both outpatient and inpatient services. For the latter (and for the E.R.), the department offers immediate availability which guarantees continual assistence.

The service analyzes biological samples, interprets results, gives consultations, and organizes educational and training activities for the prevention, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of patients. The development of the resources and the motivation of the personnel are the central objectives that the hospital intends to pursue through training programs regarding quality controls, technical aspects, and management and cultural issues.
