Diagnostic Imaging Department
The Diagnostic Imaging service spans three different floors: on the mezzanine floor the x-ray and ultrasound areas can be found, on the first floor MRI and CT scans are done, and on the first floor underground (-1) is where the Nuclear Medicine department is located.
With more than 50,000 services and three million images created every year, the department is one of the highest quality and most technologically advanced centers in the Veneto region. The activity revolves around external and internal patients as well as locals who present themselves in the Emergency Room. The staff is made up of well-tested professionals, supported by radiological consultants of the highest caliber, experience, and prestige. The center is furnished with the most avantgarde apparatus able to satisfy all of the requests for high quality diagnostic imaging.
The principal sectors of the department are:
• Radiology
• Nuclear Medicine
At the Abano Terme General Hospital all of the images are digital; true computerized files that are archived in the system and can be easily re-opened, moved, or copied if needed. The modern digital system which the staff uses allows them to improve the images at a subsequent moment without having to re-do the examination, save x-ray doses on traditional film, transfer the immages immediately to the correct department within the hospital, and archive them directly onto the PACS system or on a cd-rom.
It is also possible to send the images via internet to have distance consultations and discussions with other doctors (the famous 'teleradiology'). All of the activities done in the department are handled using a computerized voice recognition software so that the radiologists can dictate the medical report immediately with their digital signature attached.
The Diagnostic Imaging department is furnished with the most avantgarde apparatus able to satisfy all of the requests for high quality diagnostic imaging. The principal sectors of the department are: traditional radiology, sonography (ultrasound), mammography, multi-slice CAT scan, magnetic resonance (MRI), and nuclear medicine.
Moreover, the digital systems allow the doctors to obtain threedimensional images by using a series of contiguous CAT scans of a particular body part. Once again, the department boasts sophisticated modeling programs which are capable of threedimensional reconstructions of the lumen of the colon. These reconstructions permit specialists to look at the walls of the colon from the inside, creating what is called the 'virtual colonoscopy.'The service also performs mammograms and ultrasounds of the breast for early cancer detection.
The department has at its disposal a new 1.5 Tesla MRI machine (which is upgradeable to 3-Tesla) capable of capturing high-resolution images of the body as well as sophisticated angiographical and funtional studies.
The team ensures diagnostic services for all of the medical and surgical areas: interventional and diagnostic neuroradiolody, gastrointestinal radiology, thoracic radiology, oncologic radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, cardiothoracic radiology.
